Dat Brainport Eindhoven is uitgegroeid tot een hotspot voor innovatie en technologie, dat kunnen we inmiddels gerust stellen. Niet alleen voor Nederland, maar op wereldwijde schaal. Wat is het geheim van het succes achter deze 'slimste vierkante kilometer van de wereld'? Misschien is dat wel het vermogen om internationaal talent aan te trekken.

Alleen al binnen Philips werken mensen van 89 nationaliteiten op de High Tech Campus in Eindhoven of in ons productie- en innovatiecentrum in Best. Deze twee Brainport-locaties vormen samen de grootste innovatiehub van Philips ter wereld.

Patiënten herstellen sneller, met minder pijn en kunnen eerder naar huis

Om succesvol te kunnen blijven innoveren, moet Brainport nieuw talent blijven vinden. Daarom heeft Brainport 10 professionals gevraagd om hun verhaal te vertellen; hoe is het om in deze regio te wonen en te werken? Mahmoud Khodier, een Data & AI Scientist uit Egypte, legt in deze vlog uit hoe hij bij Philips bijdraagt aan het verbeteren van het leven van 2,5 miljard mensen:

"Een van de grote voorbeelden van hoe technologie de gezondheidszorg verbetert, is Image Guided Therapy," legde Mahmoud uit. "Deze systemen die artsen en ziekenhuizen over de hele wereld kunnen helpen om minimaal invasieve chirurgie uit te voeren bij miljoenen patiënten. Dit betekent dat artsen bijvoorbeeld een klep in het hart kunnen plaatsen zonder de borstkas van de patiënt te hoeven openen. En voor patiënten betekent dit een sneller herstel, minder pijn en een minimaal verblijf in het ziekenhuis."

Als Data & AI Scientist combineert Mahmoud data met innovaties om de werking van de technologie te optimaliseren. "Azurion, een systeem dat Philips samen met artsen heeft ontwikkeld om dit soort operaties mogelijk te maken, genereert enorme hoeveelheden data."

Experimenten met gegevens

Samen met een team van internationale professionals voert Mahmoud data-experimenten uit en bouwt hij dashboards om bruikbare inzichten te creëren: "Door beschrijvende en voorspellende analytics te gebruiken, kunnen we bijvoorbeeld inzicht krijgen in het interactieve gedrag met onze systemen. En dan kunnen we voorstellen om specifieke functies toe te voegen of te verwijderen om de algehele ervaring voor artsen te verbeteren en zo het resultaat voor de patiënt te verbeteren."

Zou hij talent aanraden om bij Philips in de regio Brainport en Brabant te komen werken? Absoluut:

Within Philips alone, people from 89 nationalities work at either the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven or our production- and innovation center in Best. These two Brainport locations together make up for the biggest innovation hub of Philips in the world.

Patients recover faster, with less pain and can return home earlier

To keep being successful in innovation, Brainport needs to continue finding new talent. Therefore, Brainport asked 10 professionals to tell their story; what is it like to live and work in this region? Mahmoud Khodier, a Data & AI Scientist from Egypt, explained in this vlog how he contributes to improving the lives of 2.5 billion people at Philips:

“One of the great examples of how technology improves healthcare is Image Guided Therapy,” Mahmoud explained. “These systems that can help physicians and hospitals around the world to perform minimal invasive surgery to millions of patients. This means that physicians for example can place a valve in the heart without needing to open the chest of the patient. And for patients, it means faster recovery, less pain and minimal stay at hospitals.”

As a Data & AI Scientist, Mahmoud combines data with innovations to optimize the way the technology works. “Azurion, a system that Philips developed together with physicians to enable these types of surgeries, generates tremendous amounts of data.”

Data experiments

Together with a team of international professionals, Mahmoud runs data experiments and builds dashboards to create actionable insights: “For example, by using descriptive and predictive analytics we can understand the interactive behavior with our systems. And then we can suggest adding or removing specific features to improve the overall experience for physicians and accordingly improve the patient outcome.”
