Master Kick Off

We willen mensen enthousiasmeren

Ann Claessens

Enthousiasmeren

Master Kick Off

Master Kick Off

Philips offers 500 TU/e master students a glimpse into the future of healthcare

It’s a pretty sight: 500 students who are sitting and lying on the grass at De Strip on High Tech Campus Eindhoven (HTC). They are at the beginning of their master's program at the University of Technology Eindhoven (TU/e) and now they visit the various companies on this campus. It's lunchtime and they all take the opportunity to have a chat with each other outside in the sun. Half of them have already met Philips this morning, the other half is going to this afternoon. In the plenary program, all 500 students will hear about e/MTIC*, the collaboration between Philips, TU/e and three hospitals in the region. For 200 of them, the introduction to Philips goes one step further: during a number of workshops they will be introduced to the world of health technology and the way of working within Philips.

Master Kick Off

In the HTC36 building, which was completely renewed last year, they will be welcomed into the software world of Philips. Various software architects explain the role of software development in Philips' innovations and how they take this a step further in their scrum teams. One building down the street, Jean-Marc Huijskens, Senior Architect AR/VR, gives a number of students a glimpse into his kitchen. "We work with software engineers on solutions that focus on virtual and artificial intelligence. This puts us at the beginning of the research process."

We want to enthuse people

Ann Claessens

Sr. HR Program Manager Innovation at Philips

Enthuse

Jean-Marc often gives demonstrations to young people; from primary school scholars to students, he hopes to make them enthusiastic for his work and for Philips. "My goal is to give them a glimpse into the future of healthcare and to show them what we at Philips mean in this respect and to encourage them to come and work on health technology here later on. Ann Claessens, Sr. HR Program Manager Innovation at Philips. "Our mission to improve the lives of 3 billion people worldwide every year by 2030 requires good and passionate people. That's why we like to participate in initiatives such as the Master Kick-Off at the TU/e. We hope that this will make people enthusiastic. Not only for our company, but also for the Brainport region and their own further study."

Master Kick Off
The more you see, the better you can shape your own future

Kari

Master student

Kari (24), student Innovation Management, finds her participation in the Kick-Off and her visit to Philips very valuable precisely for that reason. She participates in the Data Enabled Design workshop, a course that fits in with the bachelor she followed. "It's interesting to see how the theory from your study is put into practice here." Still, she chooses a slightly different direction for her master's degree. "I'm going to do Innovation Management and this Master Kick-Off is a good way to get to know people, while at the same time you can have a look inside at different companies. An opportunity that, according to her, every student should seize. "Because the more you see, the better you can shape your own future.

Master Kick Off

*e/MTIC is a cooperation between TU Eindhoven, Philips, Máxima Medical Center, Catharina Hospital and the Kempenhaeghe Expertise Center. This should lead to more technical innovation in healthcare. Around a hundred TU/e PhD students are working within the consortium, together with a comparable number of experts and scientists from TU/e, the hospitals and Philips. Over the last 15 years, the parties have already worked bilaterally on projects with different focus areas. The partners expect that the intensive collaboration between clinic, science and industry will significantly shorten the development time from research to result for the patient.
