Philips shows role of image and sound in patient care during Dutch Design Week

Exhibition Sense(s) of Care in Philips Museum

Healthcare is full of devices you can touch, hear and see; all these systems and solutions in hospitals, for example, work together to give patients the best possible treatment. Philips Design's exhibition Sense(s) of Care shows how images and sound play a role in patient recovery.

Sensory experiences

In the museum, you can discover how top Philips designers are further developing healthcare with high-quality sensory experiences. In addition to the temporary exhibition "Sense(s) of Care," a new activity for children has been developed. In it, they can make their own drawing come to life in an MRI experience. The MRI is a device used to scan the body.

Visitors can also participate every day in interactive sessions of Heartsync; an installation that uses live heart rate data to measure heart rate synchronization within a group. All this can be seen and experienced during Dutch Design Week 2023 at the Philips Museum.

A look at the heart

The exhibition Sense(s) of Care shows how a surgeon can see and reach a heart with minimal surgical intervention. This innovative and personalized care can help a patient feel better faster. It highlights how Philips products are designed to be as optimal as possible; always with the needs of patients and physicians working with these devices in mind.

The temporary exhibition showcases four award-winning projects by Philips' designers. The projects have been rewarded with prestigious international awards this year, such as the Red Dot Design Awards, IF Design Awards and UX Design Awards. During Dutch Design Week, online Design Talks are also organized where interested parties can engage in conversation with the top designers.

Design your own MRI experience

Because many children find an MRI scan exciting, Philips and illustrator Aniek Bartels have joined forces. Children are given the opportunity to step into the wonderful world of the MRI scan. In particular, lying still in an MRI scanner can be quite a challenge, especially for children.

The Philips Museum challenges children to design their own MRI experience. The young participants get to think about what makes them feel calm, and then make a beautiful drawing of it. In a spectacular way, the children are involved in the ingenious invention of the MRI scan. Thus, they learn that technology helps to shape their own experience. Suitable for children aged 4 to 12.

Live event: Heartsync

The rhythm of your heartbeat changes throughout the day. Every person has their own unique heartbeat rhythm. Yet people's heart rhythms can become synchronized. At the Philips Museum, visitors can participate in the interactive installation Heartsync by artist Nino Basilashvili. This is an installation that uses live heartbeat data to measure heartbeat synchronization within a group. Ten visitors can participate in a live session lasting about 30 minutes.

Heartsync starts at 11:15 a.m. and is offered every hour. Registration in advance is not possible. Tickets are available on the day at the Philips Museum reception desk. Max. number of participants is 10 people. There is room for an additional 30 spectators in the room per session. The advisory age of Heartsync is 15 years and older.
