The rhythm of your heartbeat changes throughout the day. When you are relaxed, the time between your heartbeats is more constant than when you are tense. Each person has their own unique heart rhythm. Yet people's heart rhythms can become synchronized. For artist Nino Basilashvili, this is a symbol of a deep connection between people.
During Dutch Design Week, visitors at the Philips Museum can participate in the interactive installation Heartsync. An installation that uses live heartbeat data to measure heartbeat synchronization within a group.
Ten visitors can participate in a live session lasting about 30 minutes. They sit in a circle and each put on a heart rate sensor (ear clip) that measures their heart rate. Through a special soundscape and a voice-over, they receive instructions to breathe at a certain pace, for example.
Heartsync takes place during DDW at the Philips Museum.
