Philips Museum recaps
vibrant anniversary year full of milestones and growth in 2023

The Philips Museum concludes its 10th anniversary year with a sense of pride and gratitude, having experienced an exceptionally successful year with 84,000 visitors. With this remarkable increase in visitor numbers and a series of memorable events, the museum once again solidified its position as one of the region's most beloved attractions and storyteller about Philips heritage.

The highlight of the year was the official unveiling of the Gerard Philips artwork created by Andreas Hetfeld in honor of Philips' 130th anniversary. This monumental artwork, a tribute to innovation and humanity, found its place on the Gloeilampplantsoen at Strijp-T, after Mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem opened the exhibition on Gerard Philips at the museum on April 5, along with the presentation of FRITS magazine, which changed its title once to Gerard for the occasion.

Several events were hosted by the museum with deep engagement from visitors of all ages. From the Open Day during the Dutch Technology Festival, which focused on technological innovations, to Dutch Design Week with Philips Design's enchanting exhibition "Sense(s) of Care", where image and sound were used for patient recovery. The museum also offered a unique MRI experience and interactive sessions, including 'Heartsync' by artist Nino Basilashvili, where visitors could experience heartbeat data in a group context.

Recurring success event was Museum Kids Factory; a source of technology stimulation during school vacations. Children are immersed in the world of technology with creative activities involving simple electronic and mechanics. The in-depth mini-lectures on diverse technology history were also very popular in 2023. A unique gem of the museum remains the intimate play "The Lamp," which gives a historical picture of working at Philips & Co in 1891.

Outlook 2024

The new year promises many new experiences. In May, for example, the new exhibition brAInpower will open, an innovative exhibit on artificial intelligence and the uses in Philips' developments. The museum will also introduce the new interactive tour: a smoother and interactive visit accompanied by a Philips expert.

Open on Thursday evenings

To offer more visitors the chance to visit the museum, the museum will open its doors to the public in the evening on the first Thursday of every month. This allows more room for programming that responds to current events and visitor demand. Thursday, January 4, 2024 will be the first evening opening during which the Museum Factory+ workshop will be open to adult participants.
