Vintage Philips Weekend

Philips museum introduces Vintage Philips Weekend

Eindhoven, 4 April 2017 - On Saturday and Sunday, April 8 and 9, from 11:00-17:00 hours the Philips Museum will be organizing the first ever Vintage Philips Weekend. Visitors will be able to have a go at playing retro computer games and to enjoy listening to valve radios, gramophone players and hifi equipment from a bygone era. There will also be rock ’n’ roll performances inside the museum. Collectors of Philips memorabilia will be exhibiting their finest items in an historic location: the place where Philips first began in 1891.

Surrounded by more than 125 years of Philips history, there will be special demonstrations of the Philips Motional Feedback loudspeakers. As well as that, visitors will have a chance to see how a professional video studio works. The Vintage Philips Weekend will be steeped in nostalgia and it will be a great opportunity for everyone to reminisce about times gone by.

A number of collectors will present their unique collections of Philips products, including advertisements, shavers, TVs, irons, gramophone players and lots more besides. “Vintage items are appealing to more and more people, both young and old,” says curator Sergio Derks. “They stir emotions and brings back memories of times gone by. This is a wonderful opportunity for collectors clubs to share their collections with a wider audience.”

The Vintage Philips Weekend is part of the National Museum Week. This third National Museum Week runs from Monday April 3 to Sunday April 9, 2017, and the theme is 'Our true gold’. Standard entry charges to the Philips Museum apply for the Vintage Philips Weekend on April 8 and 9. Entry is free of charge with a ‘Museumkaart’ (museum pass).
