Technological advances can change our lives. The nineteenth century was brimming with scientific discoveries and technical breakthroughs: steam engines, telephones, automobiles, and the light bulb. Many entrepreneurs want to participate in these exciting new technologies. In a small town in the southern Netherlands, the young engineer Gerard Philips starts a lamp factory. This company grows into a worldwide phenomenon and Eindhoven becomes a center of industry and innovation. Now we cannot imagine life without electric light; the possibilities have only increased. Discover the versatility of artificial light in the Light! Experiments at the Philips Museum during GLOW. Get active yourself to investigate and experience what is possible with electric light. Also discover how this invention had, and has, a lasting influence on our culture and environment. Also check out our educational program “Light!” for schools.
During GLOW, museum volunteers will also be ready to tell the story of Philips' first light bulb, in the play The Lamp. With the Old Factory as a backdrop, you will be taken back to 1891 by the Lamp Maker, Gerard and Anton Philips.
Tickets for the Philips Museum can be purchased online or at the front desk. There is no additional cost to participate in The Lamp and/or Light! experiments, you only need an entrance ticket.
