Philips Museum receives 80,000th visitor

In 2018 the Philips Museum received 80,000 visitors, a first time high in it’s five years existence. "The interest in Philips and the relationship with the city of Eindhoven are gaining more and more interest and with our new tours we have even more to offer," says director Olga Coolen. "Amongst others we see a growth of the number of visitors under 30."

New tours

With new tours, various events and temporary exhibitions, the Philips Museum addresses a broad group. "The award-winning Philips Design Tour is a hit," says Coolen. "With this i-Pad tour visitors discover the world of Philips Design through augmented reality."
For the youngest group, the Philips Museum introduced a special tour called ‘Lampjes’ (little lights). Children from the age of four search around the museum for secret objects with a UV flashlight. Not only families with children and the elderly, but also international visitors were able to find the museum. "We regularly receive, for example, Chinese vloggers, who introduce the Philips Museum to an audience of millions."

The 80,000th visitor traveled especially from Brussels to Eindhoven for the Philips Museum. "When I was still living in India, I was already a fan of Philips and I look forward to learning more about the company," says Sohini Chattopadhyay.

Special exhibition about WWII

Every year, the Philips Museum organizes various events and temporary exhibitions. In 2018, a special exhibition on the role of Philips director Zwartendijk during the Second World War in Lithuania was organized. Thanks to his intervention thousands of Jews with a valid visa could leave the country before it was occupied by the Germans. This exhibition can still be viewed until April 2019.
