Philips museum welcomes hundred thousandth visitor

Eindhoven, 12 May 2015 - The Philips museum received its hundred thousandth visitor on Tuesday afternoon. Director Olga Coolen presented Pierre van Engelshoven and his partner Els Spronken from Bunde with a bouquet of flowers and a voucher for unlimited entry to the Philips museum free of charge. Mr Van Engelshoven and Ms Spronken:"We were visiting the city of Eindhoven and wanted to take a look at the Philips museum. We are also interested in Philips' new innovations."

The hundred thousandth visitor came a few weeks after the Philips museum celebrated its second anniversary. The Philips museum also received a lot of visitors during the May half-term holiday, when there were a range of activities on offer for families to enjoy.

Olga Coolen was delighted to be able to welcome the hundred thousandth visitor to the Philips museum only two years after it opened: "We seem to touch people with the way we tell the Philips story. We are constantly updating and, in so doing, we are continuously exploring new avenues. And that makes people want to come back".

Thanks to a range of interactive and digital applications, visitors to the Philips museum can experience the development of this global company from when it first started in 1891 up to and including the innovations of tomorrow. The Philips museum is located on the historic site where Gerard Philips produced his first incandescent lamp in 1891, on the Emmasingel in the center of Eindhoven.

Exhibitions in 2015

The museum's main focus this year is on the 'International Year of Light' and '90 Years of Philips Design'. On April 16th, Frits Philips' birthday, the Philips museum opened the photo exhibition entitled #Lightislife, an overview of the work of six inspirational Instagram photographers, showing their vision of what light can do. From October onwards there will be a special exhibition in the Philips museum about 90 years of Philips Design.
