Holst Memorial Lecture Award 2015 voor Parkinsonexpert prof. Bas Bloem

De Holst Memorial Lecture Award 2015 gaat naar de Nijmeegse hoogleraar prof.dr. Bas Bloem. Bloem is hoogleraar Neurologie (Radboud UMC) en een internationaal erkend expert op het gebied van de Ziekte van Parkinson. Hij ontvangt de prestigieuze onderscheiding voor zijn onderzoek en zijn inzet op het gebied van zorginnovatie. Bas Bloem zal op donderdagmiddag 26 november de bij de onderscheiding horende Holstlezing uitspreken, aan de Technische Universiteit Eindhoven.

 

Professor Bas Bloem is neuroloog en Parkinsonexpert bij het Radboudumc in Nijmegen. In 2002 richtte hij het inmiddels gerenommeerde Parkinson Centrum Nijmegen (ParC) op, waar hij tevens medisch directeur van is. Samen met Marten Munneke startte hij ParkinsonNet, een innovatief zorgnetwerk dat meerdere nationale en internationale onderscheidingen kreeg.

 

Sinds 2008 is Bloem hoogleraar neurologie in Nijmegen. Zijn onderzoek is gericht op cerebral compensatory mechanisms, met name op het gebied van lopen en evenwicht; en op zorginnovatie, met als doel het ontwikkelen van wetenschappelijk onderbouwde patiëntgerichte zorg. Bloem werd in 2011 verkozen tot Nationale Zorgheld door het Ministerie van Volksgezondheid, en heeft meer dan 410 peer-reviewed publicaties op zijn naam staan.

 

De jaarlijkse (Engelstalige) Holstlezing wordt sinds 1977 gezamenlijk georganiseerd door  de Technische Universiteit Eindhoven (TU/e) en Philips Research. De reeks is vernoemd naar dr. Gilles Holst (1886-1968)  de oprichter en eerste directeur van het Philips Natuurkundig Laboratorium in Eindhoven. Holst was ook als adviseur betrokken bij de oprichting van de TU/e in 1956.

 

De Holst Memorial Lecture Award wordt ieder jaar toegekend aan een eminent onderzoeker die in zijn of haar werk de verbinding weet te leggen tussen onderzoek en maatschappelijke toepassing. Prof. Bloem is de 39ste in een rij van sprekers waaronder bekende onderzoekers als Nobelprijswinnaars Shuji Nakamura, Arno Penzias, Alan Heeger en biotechnoloog Craig Venter. De eerste Holstlezing werd in 1977 gegeven door Alexander King, oprichter van de Club van Rome. De bij de Award horende portretpenning is een ontwerp van kunstenaar Jos Reniers.   
 
Holst Symposium ‘Connected Health’ en Holst Memorial Lecture 26 november
Prof. Bloem zal zijn Holstlezing (‘Healthcare Networks need Innovative Technology and vice versa’) uitspreken op donderdagmiddag 26 november, 16.00 uur, in het Auditorium van de TU/e. De lezing is tevens de afsluiting van het Holstsymposium ‘Connected Health’. Belangstellenden zijn welkom bij zowel Holstlezing als –symposium.
