Philips Foundation draagt bij aan oprichten van UNICEF Global Innovation Center

New York – De Philips Foundation heeft haar samenwerking met UNICEF uitgebreid door samen met vier andere organisaties het UNICEF Global Innovation Center (GIC) op te richten. De Philips Foundation is tevens lid van de stuurgroep (Steering Committee) van het GIC. Het GIC is gevestigd in Nairobi (Kenia) en is opgezet om schaalvergroting te realiseren en de ontwikkeling te versnellen van innovaties die het leven van kinderen over de hele wereld moet verbeteren. De Philips Foundation zal het innovatieteam van UNICEF ook van advies voorzien en hen toegang geven tot de innovatieprocessen en -oplossingen van Philips, evenals toegang tot het interne Philips-netwerk van onderzoekers en ontwerpers.

“Samen met het Global Innovation Center en het Innovation Fund werkt UNICEF aan nieuwe vormen van samenwerking tussen bedrijven en ontwikkelingsorganisaties die hun middelen en deskundigheid bundelen om de problemen waarmee kinderen te maken hebben, aan te pakken”, aldus dr. Sharad Sapra, directeur van het UNICEF Global Innovation Center. “UNICEF is blij met de waardevolle bijdrage van de oprichters van het Global Innovation Center en het Innovation Fund, en bedankt hen voor hun bereidheid om samenwerkingsverbanden op een innovatieve manier te benaderen en voor hun inzet om het leven en de toekomst van kinderen te verbeteren.”

De Philips Foundation is sinds haar oprichting als liefdadigheidsinstelling in 2014 actief betrokken bij projecten over de hele wereld die het leven van mensen verbeteren. De Foundation gaat ervoor zorgen dat het innovatieteam van UNICEF ondersteuning krijgt van Koninklijke Philips N.V., zodat lopende projecten nog efficiënter kunnen worden uitgevoerd en kansen worden benut om technologie op grote schaal in meerdere landen toe te passen. Tijdens een workshop onder leiding van Philips Design zullen de leden van de GIC-stuurgroep deze week bij elkaar komen om te onderzoeken waarop elke deelnemer innovatie kan benutten om in de nabije toekomst optimale resultaten voor kinderen te realiseren.

Het stelt ons in staat om op een zinvolle wijze gebruik te maken van de technologie, het innovatievermogen en de medewerkers van Philips om maatschappelijke innovaties grootschalig toe te passen in gemeenschappen over de hele wereld, om zo kinderen te steunen”, aldus Ronald de Jong, lid van het Executive Committee van Philips en voorzitter van de Philips Foundation. “Innovatie als manier om het leven van mensen te verbeteren, staat centraal bij Philips. We zijn daarom steeds vaker op zoek naar samenwerking met partners zoals UNICEF.”

Dit is het tweede project in de samenwerking tussen de Philips Foundation en UNICEF, na het ‘Maker Movement’-project, dat sociale ondernemers in Nairobi ondersteunt bij de ontwikkeling en grootschalige prooductie van goedkope gezondheidsapparatuur voor zwangere vrouwen en pasgeboren baby’s. Het project maakt tevens gebruik van de expertise van lokale medewerkers in de Philips Africa Innovation Hub in Nairobi om sociale ondernemers te begeleiden bij de ontwikkeling van de benodigde infrastructuur.
